Best time to visit Ban Krut
Published · Last checked · Independent guide, no bookings
Ban Krut is warm all year, so the real questions are rain, haze, heat and crowds. To answer them we used official 30-year climate normals (1991-2020) from the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD). Ban Krut has no weather station of its own. The nearest TMD stations are Prachuap Khiri Khan, about 55 km to the north, and Chumphon, further south, so read the figures as a guide to the pattern, not a promise for your dates.
Where the data comes from
The figures below come from the TMD report 'Climatological Data of Thailand for 30 Year Period (1991-2020)', Meteorological Data Report No. 551.586-13-2023. We used the Prachuap Khiri Khan station table (station 48500, page 67 of the report) as the main guide and the Chumphon table (station 48517) for comparison. Ban Krut, at about 11°21' N, lies between the two stations, closer to Prachuap Khiri Khan.
December to February: driest and coolest, but hazy
At Prachuap Khiri Khan these are the driest months. February averages 21.4 mm of rain on about 3 rainy days, and December 24.4 mm on under 3. Nights are at their coolest, with a mean minimum of 21.2°C in January, and average daytime highs are about 31 to 32°C. The catch is haze: the station logs around 19 to 21 haze days a month in December and January, so views from hilltops such as Wat Thang Sai can look soft and pale.
March and April: hot, fairly dry, clearer air
Rain stays low, with under 5 rainy days a month on average. Heat builds, and April is the hottest month, with a mean daily maximum of 34.6°C. Haze days fall to about 5 in April, and average visibility improves. Plan beach time for the morning and late afternoon.
May to September: showers and cloud
Rain arrives in May. From May to September the Prachuap station records about 12 to 17 rainy days a month, but monthly totals stay moderate, at roughly 90 to 120 mm. Skies are cloudier, and the prevailing wind is westerly from May to September. Some travel writers like March to October for snorkelling trips to Koh Thalu, so this season can still work if you stay flexible.
October and November: the wettest stretch
October is the wettest month at Prachuap Khiri Khan, with 232.8 mm of rain on about 17 days, the most thunderstorm days of the year and the highest humidity. November is drier there, at 127.5 mm on about 7 days. Further south, Chumphon stays wet for longer: its wettest months are October and November, and December still averages 172.6 mm. Its yearly total, 1,937.4 mm, is far above Prachuap's 1,113.8 mm.
So when should you go?
For the best chance of dry days, aim for December to April, which matches the local advice of November to April for calm weather and clear skies. Choose March or April for clearer views, and December to February for cooler nights. Avoid October if rain worries you. Whatever the month, weekdays are quieter: families drive down from Bangkok at weekends and on holidays, and the beach empties again on Monday.
