How to get to Ban Krut from Bangkok
Published · Last checked · Independent guide, no bookings
Ban Krut is a small beach village in Bang Saphan district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, on Thailand's Southern Line railway and just off Highway 4. That makes it easy to reach without flying. This hub explains the three main ways to get to Ban Krut from Bangkok and from Hua Hin, which stations serve the coast, and how to get from the station or bus stop to the beach. We give no fixed prices or timetables, because they change. Check the official State Railway of Thailand (SRT) app or site before you go.
By train from Bangkok
Ban Krut has its own station on the Southern Line, about 360 km down the line from Thon Buri. Since 19 January 2023, long-distance special express, express and rapid trains on the Southern Line start at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in Chatuchak, not at Hua Lamphong. The terminal links to the MRT Blue Line at Bang Sue. Ordinary trains that call at every stop still run from other Bangkok stations, so check where your train starts. Several special express and rapid trains stop at Ban Krut, but not all. Travellers describe the ride as roughly five to seven hours, depending on the train. See the official SRT site at railway.co.th and book on the SRT D-Ticket site or app.
Which stations serve the Ban Krut coast?
Ban Krut station is in the village, close enough to walk to the sand if you travel light. Going south, the line passes Nong Mongkhon, Na Phak Khuang, Bang Saphan Yai, Hin Gong, Cha Muang, Bang Saphan Noi and Huai Sak. Bang Saphan Yai is the stop for the Suan Luang beach area, and Bang Saphan Noi or Huai Sak suit Bang Berd Bay. North of Ban Krut, Khok Ta Hom and Thap Sakae come first, then Prachuap Khiri Khan town. Smaller halts are served by fewer trains, so check the stop before you book.
By train from Hua Hin
Almost all southbound trains from Bangkok stop at Hua Hin, so it is the easiest place to join the line. Ban Krut is about 148 km south of Hua Hin by rail, roughly two to three hours depending on the train. The same rule applies: check that your train stops at Ban Krut, not only at Prachuap Khiri Khan or Bang Saphan Yai. Read our Hua Hin guide if you want to break the trip there.
By bus and minivan
Long-distance buses to the south leave from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) on Borommaratchachonnani Road, in the far west of the city. Do not confuse it with the older southern terminal on the same road. Take a bus towards Bang Saphan Noi and ask to get off at the Ban Krut junction on Highway 4. From the junction, continue by motorcycle taxi or songthaew (shared pickup). From Hua Hin, southbound minivans to Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon leave from the clock tower area in the centre of town, not from a formal station.
By car
Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) runs south from Bangkok through Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi and Phetchaburi into Prachuap Khiri Khan. Highway 35 (Rama II Road) joins it at Pak Tho in Ratchaburi, so map apps may send you that way. Near kilometre marker 382, turn onto the frontage road, then head east on the Ban Krut road for about 9 km. Cross the railway to reach the beach road. Drivers describe the trip from Bangkok as about four to four and a half hours without heavy traffic. From Hua Hin, simply stay on Highway 4 south.
Arriving and getting around
Ban Krut has no airport. Hua Hin Airport, about 7 km north of Hua Hin town, has a small number of domestic flights. Motorcycle taxis and songthaews cover the last stretch from Ban Krut station or the highway junction. The beach road is long, so many visitors rent a scooter or bicycle to reach the bays to the south.
