Mae Ramphueng Bay in Bang Saphan
Published · Last checked · Independent guide, no bookings
Ao Mae Ramphueng is a long, quiet bay in Bang Saphan district, south of Ban Krut. A road runs right beside the sand, seafood restaurants face the water and the beach slopes gently into the sea. It is a calm alternative to busier Gulf beaches. Note: this is Ao Mae Ramphueng in Bang Saphan, not the better-known Mae Ramphueng Beach in Rayong province on the eastern Gulf coast.
Not the Rayong beach
Many people searching for Mae Ramphueng Beach mean the beach of the same name in Rayong province, on the eastern coast. This guide is about Ao Mae Ramphueng in Bang Saphan, Prachuap Khiri Khan. Check the province when you book a room or a map route.
The beach and the coastal road
The bay has fine, clean sand and wide views over the Gulf. A coastal road follows the beach for its whole length, so you can drive slowly with the sea at your side and park almost anywhere. The road is a lovely spot for photos in the morning and evening.
Swimming and relaxing
The beach slopes gently, which makes it fine for swimming on calm days. It is also a good place to walk, read under a tree and watch the sunrise. The atmosphere is calm, far from crowded tourist spots.
Seafood and local life
Seafood restaurants and small local eateries line the shore, many with sea views. Much of the seafood comes from nearby fishing communities. Mae Ramphueng is also the name of one of Bang Saphan's seven subdistricts.
Forest behind the beach
Behind the coast lies the Mae Ramphueng forest area, mostly peat swamp forest. It is part of the planned Ao Siam National Park, together with the Pa Klang Ao forest and the islands of Koh Thalu, Koh Sing and Koh Sang.
How to get there
Take Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) to about km 398, then turn towards Bang Saphan and continue about 7 km to the sea. Road signs mark the way. Bo Thong Lang Bay is only about 4 km further along the coast, and Ban Krut Beach is about 12 to 17 km away, depending on your route.
